Synopsis
My
final question was In what
way has Michael Parenti contributed to the historiography of the
assassination of Julius Caesar.
When I first begun work on the History
Project I immediately started researching Caesar. At first it was
going to be an essay on either his entire life or on the his military
success. But I quickly realised that this was much too big a feat to
write a reasonably small essay on. So I decided to be more specific
and focus on one aspect of his life, or in this case his death. By
narrowing it down to Caesars assassination I could focus on
developing my specific question.
Narrowing down my topic still, I found
and bought a very useful and interesting book The Assassination of
Julius Caesar: A Peoples History of Rome. This
book presented a new theory to how Caesar was assassinated. So after
reading this I begun thinking what were the previous theories . After
a short search I found that the two major sources were Plutarch's
Fall of the Roman Republic and
Suetonius's The Twelve Caesars. From
this I was able to create a specific question subject, which would
compare the previous beliefs of why Caesar was assassinated to
Parenti's modern interpretation.
After finalising my question I needed to go about deciding how I
would answer it. To make sure Parenti's new values were clear I
needed to clearly present the past views of the assassination, this
meant I had to examine how the previous historians displayed there
findings and look at the context of the Historians in there times.
This meant studying articles on the Historians themselves, which is
seen in the sources of various articles and mini Biographies of the
historians.
The contribution of Parenti is clearly seen, by comparing his
methodologies to that of the past Historians.
